It is with great delight that I welcome you to the Department of Biochemistry. The Department has articulated its specific mission, vision and objectives in line with the vision and mission of the University. The courses were designed with a view to producing job-ready graduates in the life sciences with appropriate skills and capacity for independent thinking, creativity and resourcefulness.

College Seminar

CANCER IN AFRICANS: NATURE OR NURTURE

Dr. Solomon Oladapo Rotimi presented a College seminar titled CANCER IN AFRICANS: NATURE OR NURTURE on Tuesday 28th of January, 2020 at the Architecture Digital Display Studio. He spoke about the topic in detail as well as what he did during his Fulbright at the Department of Translational Genomics, Keck School of Medicine and the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California.

Town and Gown Seminar Series

The Department hosted Mr. OLASEHINDE, O. L., the Sales Manager Leventis Nigeria Limited as our Third Town and Gown seminar guest speaker on Friday, 7th of February, 2020. His lecture was titled THE BIOCHEMIST AND THE WORLD OF OPPORTUNITIES IN FOOD PROCESSING. He spoke at length on the importance of biochemistry and the vast opportunities available to them as it pertains to food production, processing and preservation. He also enlightened us on various roles biochemists can fit in the industry which are quite different from the traditional roles. He also did justice to the questions asked and appreciated the university for her distinct curriculum.
The Department hosted Pastor Peter Albert, Senior Consultant Kaizen Institute West Africa as our Third Town and Gown seminar guest speaker on Tuesday 7th of February, 2022. His lecture was titled Biochemistry:A catalyst for improvement in industries. He spoke at length on the importance of biochemistry and the vast opportunities available to them as it pertains to improving the profitability of companies. He also enlightened us on various roles biochemists can fit in the industry which are quite different from the traditional roles. He also did justice to the questions asked and appreciated the university for her distinct curriculum.

Inaugural Lecture

Our very own Prof. Shalom. N. Chinedu

Our very own Prof. Shalom. N. Chinedu delivered the18th inaugural lecture of Covenant University themed, FROM EVOLUTION TO REVOLUTION: BIOCHEMICAL DISRUPTIONS AND EMERGING PATHWAYS FOR SECURING AFRICA’S FUTURE. He stated biotechnology as a great commercial potential due to its importance in driving the comfort of mankind. He also noted the ability to trigger industrialisation and rapid economic growth in Africa, making her a respectable continent in the world. The full video can be watched and downloaded here.

Fulbright Scholarship

Mr. Isaacson B. Adelani has been awarded

The department is pleased to announce that one of our faculty, Mr. Isaacson B. Adelani has been awarded, Fulbright scholarship by the Institute of International Education and U.S. Department of State which will take place from August 2019 till June 2020.
